Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former skipper of the Indian team, made headlines when he announced the news of his retirement from international cricket. The world was in shock and everybody wanted more of their favourite player. Now MS Dhoni is back. No, not in international cricket. He is still retired. But the captain is back in the headlines. This time the talented cricketer is making headlines for a nondescript issue of Rs. 1800 dues. Dhoni was levied with the money on account of the GST that was attached to his life membership of the JSCA. After the Annual General Meeting of the association on August 30, this entire episode came to the surface. The amount is not big but the player that the issue is related to, is certainly huge, thus, the matter also becomes of grave concern. Now the dues have been settled as per JSCA but let’s have a look at the series of events that took place around this small issue of transaction.
DIE HARD FANS
The issue of MSD owing the amount of Rs. 1800 to its parent body, JSCA, was a matter that could have been sorted easily between the player and the association. But few die-hard fans of Dhoni took them atter into their hands and wanted to help the cricketer out. The school students who must have been the fans of this legend collected the amount, got a draft made and tried to submit the same at JSCA. Former cricketer and activist Shesh Nath also made the same attempt and was denied permission by the association.
THE MATTER HAS BEEN SETTLED
The secretary of JSCA has released his official statement saying that the matter has been resolved as they have received the payment. As per Sahay, Dhoni’s dues persisted till the closure of the financial year 2019-20, that’s why this issue was raised but now the payment has been received by the association which means there is no issue. The secretary very clearly said, “The matter has been closed. There is nothing more to add to it.”
Sahay did not forget to mention former cricketer Shesh Nath Pathak who had taken the matter in his own hands and went to JSCA with a draft and four people to submit it on Dhoni’s behalf. Obviously, the secretary did not like such an unruly act and wanted to tell Nath that it was not his place to clear Dhoni’s dues. Sahay said Some people will do such things. They will do anything to try and get their name on the newspaper.” He also accused Nath of being selfish as he mentioned that it was all a publicity stunt on Nath’s behalf and he was looking after his “own interest”.
Pathak claimed on Sunday that JSCA has accepted the draft that he had brought on Dhoni’s behalf and JSCA did not issue him a receipt. But Sahay has a different story. As per Sahay JSCA could not issue a receipt as it did not need that money and the same had been returned to Nath. Secretary seemed to be furious over Nath’s act and asked, “Who is he to come and give money on Dhoni’s behalf?”
