IPL season 13 is all set to go on the field. Fans are ready to cheer the teams and teams are ready to follow all the protection protocols so that the sport and its true spirit is not compromised. The IPL line-up is complete with the arrival of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals in Dubai. Teams have followed all the rules and regulations during their transit. Players have taken all the protective measures to keep themselves and others safe from the infamous Coronavirus. Now all the teams are in the last phase of the completion of arrival protocol. All the teams are cooped up in their hotel rooms in isolation to complete 6 days of quarantine before the teams start with practice sessions. But the players have taken this time in the right spirits and that is the mark of being a strong and dedicated sportsperson.
NO STOPPING DURING QUARANTINE
Cricketers, irrespective of the teams that they are a part of, have taken 6-day long quarantine as a challenge and are clearly winning it with their inventive ways. Players are getting creative with the ways they can use their hotel rooms. Some have turned it into a gym for themselves; some in meeting rooms. But one way or another, cricketers are adhering to the protocols with complete conviction.
CSK star player, Ravindra Jadeja was recently seen to be having fun during his weights session. The cricketer lifted heavy weights while listening to light notes of Malayalam songs, all on the floor of his hotel room, not a gym. Sunrisers were also caught doing the same. Players have turned their hotel balconies and rooms into places to keep themselves fit. Sunrisers, being new to isolation, preferred balconies. Mumbai’s Krunal Pandya and King XI Punjab’s Mohammed Shami also join this clan of fitness driven cricketers engaging themselves in activities which will surely keep them ready for the coming practice sessions.
Cricketers have not forgotten their fans during the time of isolation. CSK’s Doug Watson sent out an inspiring message for the fans and the world. This message is also an indication towards players missing out on all the love that their fans used to shower on them during the IPL tournament. Well, the virtual fandom is as strong as the live one.
Skipper Virat Kohli is not ready to take it light during this IPL season. This became clear as Kohli hosted a virtual team meeting. Though the team is staying in the same hotel but keeping up with the protocols, the captain decided to update the team through the virtual medium. With all the seriousness in the team, we might speculate that Royal Challengers Bangalore is going to bat in a tough competition this season.
Unlike the busy ones, there are few who are taking this time to relax for a while before they exhaust themselves in the long practice sessions. Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag was seen holding some cute, fluffy toys with an endearing smile. All-rounder, Jayant Yadav posted a picture of himself looking at the view from his hotel balcony which shows the cricketer’s satisfaction.
