Dubai: The continues best wishes to have Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the future. The International Cricket Council (ICC), the global body of the game, praised Dhoni and said that the former Indian captain has inspired an entire generation and the whole world will miss him immensely.
As you know that, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday evening. He wrote on Instagram, “Let me be considered retired now.” Dhoni is the only captain in the world to have won all three ICC Trophies - T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013.
Reacting to Mahi's retirement, ICC Chief Executive Manu Sahni said, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the all-time greatest players of the game. The image of his winning shot in the finals of the 2011 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup at Wankhede Stadium has been etched in the minds of cricket lovers around the world.”
Sahni was referring to the sixes off Sri Lanka's Nuwan Kulasekara, which helped India win the world title at home. He said, “He has inspired an entire generation and will miss it immensely. On behalf of the ICC, I congratulate him for his illustrious cricket career and wish him all the best for the future.”
In addition to scoring 4876 runs in 98 Tests, Dhoni made 256 catches and 38 stumpings, while in 350 ODIs he scored 10773 runs and took 321 catches and 123 stumpings. He last played for India against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cup last year. India had to face defeat in this match.
Dhoni made 57 catches and stumped 34 catches besides scoring 1617 runs in T20 Internationals. He scored six Tests and 10 ODIs. Dhoni was the top batsman in the ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings for 656 days between 2006 and 2010.
He was voted the ICC's ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2008 and 2009. Dhoni was a part of ICC's best ODI international team of the year in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and ICC's best Test team of the year in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. He also received the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award in 2011.
