New Delhi: Team India's star opener Rohit Sharma will be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country's highest sports award this year. He has been congratulated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the announcement of the highest sports award. Apart from them, four other sports personalities will also be given Khel Ratna. This is going to be the first time in the history of sports awards that 5 players will be awarded the Khel Ratna simultaneously.
BCCI congratulated Rohit on Twitter. BCCI tweeted, ' Congratulations @ImRo45 for being conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, 2020, India’s highest sporting honour. He is only the fourth Indian cricketer to receive this award.” The BCCI has also congratulated the male fast bowler Ishant Sharma and women all-rounder Deepti Sharma for receiving the Arjuna Award.
The Indian Board tweeted congratulating fast bowler Ishant Sharma, “Congratulations to our senior most Test bowler @ImIshant for winning the prestigious Arjuna Award for 2020. Keep going, champ!”
In another tweet, BCCI congratulated woman all-rounder Deepti,“Congratulations to our all-rounder @Deepti_Sharma06 on being conferred upon with the prestigious Arjuna Award for 2020. May you continue soaring new heights.”
As you know, Sachin Tendulkar, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Team India captain Virat Kohli have got Khel Ratna before Rohit. On the occasion of Sports Day on August 29, President Ramnath Singh Kovind will give sports awards to the players.
